Fellowship-Trained OBGYN Hospitalist & Medical Educator
Bridging the worlds of addiction recovery and healthcare systems — bringing principles of healing to the institutions that need them most.
About
Dr. Anthony Grandelis is a fellowship-trained OBGYN hospitalist, medical educator, and physician in long-term recovery whose work sits at the intersection of clinical excellence and systems transformation.
As the founder of Recovering Healthcare and author of The Recovery Prescription, Dr. Grandelis brings a unique lens to the crisis facing medicine today — one forged through personal experience with addiction, recovery, and the healing professions.
His framework applies twelve recovery-derived principles — integrity, humility, honesty, gratitude, surrender, safety, hope, authenticity, and more — to the broken systems that govern patient care. The result is not just a critique, but a roadmap for renewal.
Based in Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Grandelis consults for healthcare organizations, speaks at national conferences, and serves as an expert witness in complex inpatient OB and GYN cases.

What Addiction Can Teach Us About Healing a Broken Healthcare System
Healthcare is in crisis — not just financially, not just structurally, but spiritually. The system that trains healers has itself become sick: burned out, dishonest, fragmented, and fearful. The Recovery Prescription argues that the path forward isn't a new policy. It's a new set of principles.
Drawing on core recovery principles, as well as personal experiences in healthcare and recovery, Dr. Grandelis maps a rigorous, compassionate blueprint for transformation.

What They're Saying
"One of the most moving and memorable Grand Rounds we've had. Dr. Grandelis spoke openly and bravely about his own experience with addiction and recovery, and how the principles of recovery translate powerfully not only to healing healthcare systems, but also to the individuals working within them. This kind of honesty and vulnerability is not something we see often enough in medicine."
— Jill Liss, MD OBGYN, University of Colorado
